EXCESSIVE SWEATING (HYPERHIDROSIS) TREATMENT IN MANCHESTER

The Clinical Picture

1

Sweating is a natural temperature regulation mechanism. However, Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating that occurs regardless of heat, exercise, or stress.

It is caused by the over-stimulation of the Eccrine Sweat Glands by the Sympathetic Nervous System. The nerves in the armpit constantly fire "on" signals, even when the body is cool.

For many patients, this is socially debilitating, leading to wardrobe restrictions (avoiding colours), skin maceration, and significant anxiety in professional settings. Standard clinical-strength antiperspirants often fail because they only attempt to physically "plug" the duct with aluminium salts, rather than stopping the production of sweat itself.

Our Medical Approach

2

We treat Hyperhidrosis at the source using a neuro-modulator (Botulinum Toxin Type A). The Botox works by blocking the release of Acetylcholine, the specific chemical messenger that tells the sweat glands to activate.

By injecting precise micro-doses superficially into the dermis of the underarm, we effectively "turn off the tap." The glands simply stop receiving the signal to produce sweat.

Hyperhidrosis Injections:

A series of micro-injections into the axilla (armpit) to stop sweating for 6-9 months. This is one of the highest satisfaction procedures in aesthetic medicine.

Medical Exclusion:

As GPs, our first duty is diagnosis. We screen for "Secondary Hyperhidrosis"-sweating caused by underlying issues such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or medication side effects. If we suspect a systemic cause, we will refer you back into the NHS for further tests.

Medical Safety & Protocol

This is a shallow, intradermal injection technique that is extremely safe when performed by a medical professional. Because the toxin is placed in the skin (not the muscle), it does not affect the movement of your arms..
