Masseter Jaw Slimming Treatment in Manchester

The Clinical Picture

1

Masseter Hypertrophy & Bruxism

A wide, square lower face is frequently caused by the over-development (hypertrophy) of the Masseter Muscles, the powerful chewing muscles located at the angle of the jaw. In many patients, this hypertrophy is a symptom of Bruxism (involuntary teeth grinding or clenching, often during sleep). Just like any muscle in the body, when the Masseter is "worked out" nightly, it grows larger and stronger. This physically widens the lower face, masking the natural curve of the cheekbones and creating a heavy, masculine appearance. It also leads to functional issues such as tension headaches, jaw pain, and dental enamel wear.

Our Medical Approach

2

Controlled Muscle Atrophy

We treat the muscle to reshape the bone structure. By injecting precise doses of Botulinum Toxin Type A directly into the deep belly of the Masseter muscle, we reduce its contractile force. This does not affect your ability to chew food, but it stops the immense pressure of grinding.

Over a period of 6-8 weeks, this lack of excessive activity causes the muscle to undergo "Disuse Atrophy". This reveals the natural angle of the mandible and creates a slimmer, heart-shaped face.

Clinical Solutions

Masseter Reduction:

The primary medical treatment. We use high-dose toxin (typically 2-3 times the dose used for a frown line) to effectively debulk the large muscle.

Chin Projection:

A wide face can often make the chin appear short or blunt by comparison. Adding structural length to the chin further enhances the "V-shape" slimming effect by altering the facial ratios.

Cheek Contouring:

Restoring volume to the cheekbones can help to "lift" the visual weight of the face away from the heavy jawline.

Precision is vital in the lower face. The Masseter muscle sits in close proximity to the Risorius muscle (which controls your smile) and the Parotid Salivary Gland. If the injection is placed too shallow or too far forward, it can affect your smile or cause dry mouth. As doctors, we palpate the muscle boundaries carefully while you clench to ensure we treat only the safe "Safety Zone" of the Masseter.

All patients require a face to face consultation in Manchester prior to any treatment.
