POLYNUCLEOTIDES, DARK CIRCLES & TEAR TROUGH FILLER

The Clinical Picture

1

Why Do I Look Tired?

"Tired eyes" are rarely just about a lack of sleep. In our medical practice, we identify three distinct anatomical factors that contribute to this aesthetic.

First, bony resorption of the orbital rim creates a structural hollow (the tear trough) that no amount of eye cream can fill.

Second, the displacement of infraorbital fat pads causes shadowing and bags.

Third, the thinning of the dermis reveals the underlying vascular network, creating a dark or blue hue (dark circles).

To treat this effectively, we must diagnose which of these three factors is dominant in your unique anatomy.

Our Medical Approach

The clinical objective is to reduce the transparency of the skin and, and where indicated, replace lost volume. We generally advise against over-filling this area with thick dermal filler, as this carries a high risk of chronic oedema (puffiness) known as the Tyndall Effect. Our preferred protocol often involves improving the skin density first using regenerative medicine before considering structural filler.

Clinical Solutions

Polynucleotides (Plinest®):

Polynucleotides are indicated for increasing skin thickness and reducing vascular visibility. By stimulating cell repair, we can lighten the dark circles biologically.

Sunekos®:

Sunekos is indicated for regenerating the Extracellular Matrix (ECM). This amino-acid formula treats skin laxity and crepey texture without adding bulk or puffiness.

Tear Trough Filler:

Tear trough filler is indicated only for deep structural hollows where the defect is caused by true volume loss. We use a deep-placement cannula technique for maximum safety.

The eye area is highly vascular and requires advanced anatomical knowledge. As GPs, we use a blunt-tip cannula for almost all periorbital work. This significantly reduces the risk of bruising and vascular occlusion compared to sharp needles. All treatments begin with a thorough medical assessment to rule out other causes of oedema or pigmentation.
